Taylor Kitsch claims his True Detective predecessor Matthew McConaughey likes to kick butt.

The 34-year-old portrays Officer Paul Woodrugh in the second season of the HBO crime series, which is currently airing.

Matthew played Detective Rust Cohle in the debut season of the show and when Taylor ran into the actor out of the blue, the young star was expecting to receive wise words.

“I talked to [Matthew] McConaughey, man ...completely by chance, we're sitting together on a flight from Austin to New York and we chatted for whatever, three and a quarter hours about everything," Taylor recalled to ET Canada. "And he was nothing but gracious and excited to see it and there was no like words of wisdom or anything, it was just like 'go ...do your thing and kick a**' really.”

The seventh episode of season two airs on Sunday.

But Taylor has his lips sealed on what will happen with his character in remaining installments.

"Episode five there's a couple good scenes, four and five you'll kind of really see him emotionally unravel," he shared. "Those'll hit ya."

Rumours are rife Taylor and his True Detective co-star Rachel McAdams are currently dating.

And he addressed the speculation in a roundabout way.

"There is no record," Taylor noted. "There is nothing to set straight, she's an amazing actress and a great gal."

Rachel recently addressed the romance gossip.

She too indirectly dismissed the hearsay as silly.

“[It’s the] weird, weird, bizarre, surreal side of it but I guess you just have to laugh at it at a certain point,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

"[Taylor and I have been friends] for years. I’m like, ‘Who are these people?’ How did they confirm that? I find it really confusing, but yeah, it’s an odd little thing.”
