Krysten Ritter would have been too nervous to audition in front of Tim Burton.

The US star is part of famed director Tim’s new movie Big Eyes, which co-stars Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz and Jason Schwartzman.

Krysten wasn’t simply given the role of DeeAnn in the flick; she had to work for it. But she’s glad Tim wasn’t there when she was trying to win the part.

“I auditioned. [Tim] was not there for my audition. He wasn’t there, which I would have been crippled by nerves I think if he had been there,” Krysten confessed to Collider. “And Jeanne McCarthy, the casting director, really works with you and makes you feel comfortable.”

“She’s the best,” Jason echoed. “I don’t think I would have gotten the part without her. This is a quick sidebar about casting directors; I think a great casting director is somebody who wants to help. Like she was so helpful and gave me so many pointers.”

After impressing with her audition Krysten bagged the role, which of course meant she worked with Tim on set.

She was still nervous when it came to their first meet and got worked up while having her hair and make-up done.

“For sure. I was in hair and make-up for... getting into the period look takes a long time. So I was in hair and make-up for a few hours leading up going to meet Tim, so it was like... Oh my god those two hours were like, pretty horrible,” she recalled.

“But when I met him he immediately put me at ease and I felt comfortable. But you know, he’s an idol of mine, so meeting him was scary.”
