Lake Bell can’t get enough of visiting her own private “happy place”.

The 36-year-old actress welcomed daughter Nova, her first child with husband Scott Campbell, last October.

And although newborns are prone to drive some mothers crazy, Lake enjoys the experience of comforting her screaming child.

“My happy place is holding my daughter and my husband in the same hug. It really is. I’m getting emotional just thinking about it,” she gushed to People magazine. “I consider it such a privilege, and I know that I’m lucky. I never want to take it for granted.”

Lake is currently promoting her new film No Escape, in which she plays a mother trying to protect her children as they attempt to escape from a war-torn country.

Having her own child definitely had a huge impact on her approach to the role.

“Being a mum and looking at these circumstances, the anxiety that it incurs is pretty rich now that I think of having a little girl and what the scenario would inspire in me,” she explained. “When you have a little one, you realise that your only mission in life is to protect this helpless, very sensitive creature. That is your charge. That’s primal. I relate to that deeply.”

Lake also felt the need to keep the little ones on set safe.

All of the young actors were comforted while she was around.

“At the end of the day, we’re playing out these fake circumstances, but they are still inherently scary, so it was very easy to look at these beautiful, innocent, loving, wise, little faces and, knowing that they’re just sensitive little beings, feeling fiercely protective over them,” Lake said.

“I did feel a responsibility to be a mama bear and to infuse any sort of love and support that I could to them.”

No Escape, which also stars Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan, is currently showing in American theatres.
