Lamar Odom will need full-time care when he leaves hospital, alleges a source.
The 36-year-old sportsman was rushed to hospital in October (15) after being found unresponsive at a Las Vegas brothel, having apparently suffered a drug overdose. He was in a coma for several days and although he has been awake for weeks, the star remains in a medical centre in Los Angeles. His estranged wife Khloé Kardashian stayed by his side during his health crisis and has given updates on his outlook, previously admitting he has a long road ahead before he is well again.
An insider has spoken to People magazine about the star, suggesting he is going to need long-term care. "Lamar has made some progress, but his cognitive impairment is making life very challenging," the source claimed.
Another insider added: "Lamar won't likely leave the hospital for a long time. And when he does, he will need full time care. He can't take care of himself."
Exactly what happened to the basketball player hasn't been divulged at the moment, but it's been reported he suffered a series of strokes which have left him unable to walk on his own and struggling to speak. Although he can use some words, he is thought to be confused much of the time.
"Lamar has serious long-term and lasting issues," the second source explained. "His life will never be the same as it once was."
Lamar and Khloé were in the process of divorcing when he was hospitalised, with the reality TV star filing to end their marriage in 2013 following allegations of his drug abuse and infidelity. Despite this she rushed straight to his side and cancelled the legal proceedings, subsequently saying there is no rush for them to formally split and she felt continuing with it would be insensitive while Lamar was so unwell.
During an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show earlier in November (15), Khloé admitted she is yet to tell her estranged husband why he is in hospital.
"We tell him that he had a brain injury, but we can’t tell him how that brain injury was caused, because that will set him back,” she said. “He never asks why he’s here... He’s really confused a lot - sometimes he knows who the President is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he’s 26, and I say, 'I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!'”
