Lena Dunham slams NFL

Lena Dunham has claimed the NFL "do not care about domestic violence".

The funnywoman got serious on her Twitter account after news surfaced that Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice punched his now-wife Janay Palmer in the face, knocking her out cold, while in a lift. The incident took place in February and the couple have since married, but Lena insists the chain of events after the accident shouldn't change the facts.

"Today has just proven, once and for all, that I'm not missing f**king anything by not watching football," she ranted on her social media account.

"The NFL definitely proved through their actions over the last few months that they do not care about domestic violence. Guess what? It's still abuse whether she wants to press charges or not, whether she married him afterwards or not (sic)."

The incident took place in the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, following a heated argument between the couple before their wedding in March. His punch took Janay off her feet before she hit her head on the hand rail, leaving her unconscious.

The running back was later arrested and charged before being suspended by the NFL in July for two matches, and fined $500,000.

However, as more footage came to light showing the fight in full, the Baltimore Ravens tweeted on Monday that his contract had been terminated and the NFL then announced the ban had been upgraded to an indefinite suspension.

Lena's comments caused a stir on the social networking site, and some of the replies she received seemed to rile her even further.

"Some of you boys on twitter: I just wanna find your mamas and tell them what kind of s**t you're up to and just let them scare you a little.

"I have to believe that some kind of awakening is happening. You know, to keep from screaming. Goodnight to the sweet ones (sic)," she added.
