Lena Dunham: I married a dummy

Lena Dunham grew up in a house filled with ventriloquist dummies.

The quirky actress is the creator and lead star of HBO series Girls and has won many fans thanks to the show. She often keeps her followers entertained with witty anecdotes on Twitter and recently shared a piece of her eccentric childhood.

"Somehow just remembered that I grew up with 8 or 9 ventriloquist dummies hanging around the house, including one built to look like my mom," she posted.

"For one of my birthdays my mom took Polaroids of me and my friends marrying the dummies. I was like "guys, how cool is my MOM!?" (sic)"

Girls has been renewed for a fourth series, which will premiere next year. With busy days of shooting and promoting the show, Lena, 27, revealed how she likes to wind down.

"Nothin' like a hard day's work to put sweat pleats in ya booty shorts," she posted.

"Some people take baths to relax. Others scrub their armpits with a wash cloth then shop for half price crop tops online (sic)"

Just as Lena doesn't hold back on Twitter, she's also openly supported gay rights. Recently she spoke about her younger sister's coming out at the age of 17.

"I have always felt a strong and emotional connection to members of the LGBTQ community," she said. "It was actually a huge disappointment for me when I came of age and realised that I was sexually attracted to men. So when my sister came out I thought, 'Thank God, someone in this family can truly represent my beliefs and passions.'"
