Lena Headey: I hate lying in a scene

Lena Headey always tries to get her scenes done in a couple of takes.

The 41-year-old actress stars as Queen Cersei Lannister in hit US TV show Game of Thrones.

And Lena says when it comes to her acting style she prefers to get things perfect the first time rather than have to do the scene repeatedly until it’s right.

“It’s that weird thing of being an actor,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I can maybe do two or three scenes if I’m (she suddenly pretends to wail, then snaps back to her typical cool composure)—and then my truth is finished. I f**king hate ‘lying’ in a scene.”

This season Lena’s role has become substantially more important following the deaths of her husband and father. As her son King Tommen Baratheon, played by Dean Charles Chapman, isn’t old enough to rule on his own, Cersei finds herself in a position of power.

However, Lena admits that her alter ego struggles with her new role and finds it difficult to make the decisions she needs to.

“Not that it was a love fest, but at least she had guidance from her father. And sadly, she doesn’t really know much about their finances and political allies,” she explained. “She thinks she’s found an influential power group to join and manipulate, but she invests in the wrong people. She just has too much hatred for certain people, so she doesn’t help her cause.”

Fans of the show will be excited to learn Lena stars in some pivotal scenes this time around, particularly several with Natalie Dormer’s character Margaery.

“There’s some great scenes with Margaery and Cersei this season. I think everyone will dig that,” Lena added. “There’s a stab one way, then a good stab the other way—they’re fun and dangerous.”
