Jared Leto has hinted he’s not supposed to talk about rumours he’ll be the new Joker.

There have been whispers the 42-year-old actor is set to portray the role last played by the late Heath Ledger, in upcoming superhero movie Suicide Club. But he is remaining coy about it.

“You know there’s a film called Fight Club, my friend. And you know what the first rule is, don’t you'” he told MTV News, referencing the rule that you “do not talk about Fight Club”, before adding: “Enough said!”

Although Jared kept his lips sealed, he didn’t appear to rule it out as an option. The sociopathic bad guy brought Heath much critical acclaim in The Dark Knight. Jared, who was awarded an Oscar for his portrayal of a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club, has apparently drawn the attention of director David Ayer.

“You know, I’ve been reading scripts. It was a pretty incredible year last year,” Jared went on, stopping to point out his “pet crow”. “There was this little event called the Oscars. That basically changed my life. And a wonderful film that I was really proud to be a part of, Dallas Buyers Club.”

On account of this, the actor doesn’t feel the need to attach himself to anything else right now. He feels it will need to be the perfect project for him to get on board.

“So, I’m not really in a hurry to jump into another film unless it’s something I absolutely can’t say no to. I want to make sure its special because the previous experiences were really, really special,” he gushed. “Fortunately I have music and other things in my life that keep me really busy and I’m grateful for that. I feel really really fortunate and just thankful that there are people around the world that support these dreams and share this adventure with me.”

Jared has been spending much of his time making music and touring with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars.
