Liev Schreiber is convinced Jon Voight has a "crazy kinky side".

The two actors appear alongside each other in US TV show Ray Donovan, with Liev starring as the eponymous LA fixer and Jon taking the role of his jailbird father Mickey.

The older Donovan has a wild side which Jon shows by dancing around and temper flares, with Liev amazed by how different the 75-year-old star is in real life.

"Not at all – that’s the irony," Liev told Shortlist magazine when asked if Jon is a crazy old man in real life. "He’s a remarkably conservative person, both emotionally and politically. He’s a real gentleman. I’ve always wondered about him… He does it [plays crazy] so well, he must have this crazy kinky side. I have no idea what he does after work. I’ve never witnessed any transgressions."

Liev has enjoyed a varied career, starting out in comedy. He sometimes wishes he did more in the genre, especially as Ray is such a dark character which takes a lot out of him. The star would love to "cut loose" more at work, which is why he took a role in Movie 43. The film came out last year and was panned by critics, although Liev remains philosophical about starring in it.

"It was the project of a mutual friend of Naomi [Watts, Liev's wife] and me. He called us up and asked if we’d do a comedy short for him, and without reading a script we both said, 'Of course.' We get the script, and it was… Well, we’d already committed to it," he explained. "Don’t sweat the details, just have fun. If you’re out hunting Oscars all day, it can get pretty heavy. Naomi and I are always pigeon-holed as the ‘dark’ guys – it was nice to do something fun together. Sure, it’s not the greatest film ever made, but who cares'"
