Scarlett Johansson and Lupita N’yongo are reportedly in talks to co-star in The Jungle Book.

Disney’s fresh adaptation of the old classic written by Rudyard Kipling is now well underway, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently A-list actresses Lupita and Scarlett have entered negotiations to join the cast of director Jon Favreau’s part live-action, part CGI film.

The outlet reports Academy Award-winner Lupita would portray Rakcha, a mother wolf who adopts protagonist Mowgli.

Scarlett’s potential part is considerably more dark, as she would voice Kaa, a python snake who hypnotises victims to eat them for food.

Idris Elba will voice the family picture’s second villain, man-eating tiger Shere Khan.

It is unknown who will play the main character Mowgli at this time.

Helmer Jon will work from a screenplay penned by Justin Marks, and the director is also serving on the production team with Brigham Taylor.

Disney’s The Jungle Book has competition, as Warner Bros. has a similar project on the go with Andy Serkis attached to direct.

Scarlett is currently shooting Avengers: Age of Ultron and she will next be seen in Luc Besson’s action film Lucy, which hits theatres in August.

This would be Lupita’s first committed role since receiving an Oscar last month in the Best Actress category for her work in 12 Years a Slave.

Disney’s The Jungle Book is slated for release in October 2015.
