Madhur Mittal made Jon Hamm cry with a spicy curry.

The 27-year-old Slumdog Millionaire star appears alongside the Mad Men actor in Million Dollar Arm, about a US sports agent on a mission to recruit talented Indian players for a baseball team.

While bonding on set, Madhur decided to introduce Jon to his Mumbai heritage with a super hot dish.

"I wanted to give Jon a taste of authentic Indian food, really spicy and hot, so I cooked him my mom's lentil curry," he smiled to British newspaper Metro.

"There was smoke coming out of his ears and water from his eyes, but he was still kind enough to ask for the recipe."

Madhur was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but moved to Mumbai with his family in the '90s, although he plans to move to Los Angeles soon. Million Dollar Arm pokes fun at some Indian stereotypes, such as everyone being late and obsessed with cricket, but the star doesn't think it's offensive.

"I think it's important to laugh at ourselves so it's true that people love cricket in India," he shrugged.

"It is also mostly true that everything runs late and is disorganised. And the joke that the traffic is insane is absolutely true."

The jet setter has also spent some time living in London, UK, and says the area of Camden appealed to him because it's so "arty".

He doesn't have any immediate plans for his acting career, but with so much on his plate he admits romance is off the menu.

"I need to keep all my energy focused on my career, so there's no time for love," he said.

"It will happen when it happens. Right now, I'm very happy being single."
