Mariah Xmas movie in development

A Mariah Carey Christmas movie is in the works.

While Mariah has a long and hugely successful career, she is perhaps most famous for her festive song All I Want for Christmas is You.

And now producer Jonathan Shestack has revealed that a film is going to be produced by New Line Cinema, with Mariah in the lead role.

“It’s a little bit about how music can take you back in time,” he told Entertainment Weekly magazine. “It will be everything you hope a Christmas movie with Mariah Carey would be.”

The film will be co-produced by Jonathan and Mariah’s close friend Brett Ratner.

Mariah and Brett had sparked romance rumours in recent months. But now it seems their closeness could be due to having discussions about the as yet untitled project.

The Family Man writers David Diamond and David Weissman have also been linked to the film.

Jonathan also revealed that as well as starring in the film, the soundtrack will also be incredibly Mariah heavy.

He added that the singer is like the “empress of Christmas”.

For families around the world, Mariah’s festive track is the sound of Christmas. In fact, it has sold a staggering 14 million copies. The album it comes from, Merry Christmas, is apparently the best-selling holiday record of all time.

News of the film comes after it was reported that Mariah is planning to release a second Christmas album.

While Mariah’s grounding has been in the musical industry, she has had varying success with her acting ventures.

She has starred in films including Glitter, which was panned by critics. Meanwhile, her roles in Precious and Lee Daniels’ The Butler earned her acclaim from both fans and critics.
