Mary-Kate Olsen supposedly sold her lavish New York City home due to privacy issues.

The 27-year-old child star-turned-fashion designer purchased a 4,200-square-foot Lower Manhattan townhouse on East 10th Street for $6.2 million in 2012.

But sources claim Mary-Kate and her fiancé Olivier Sarkozy, 44, let go of the property for $6.4 million last year because she didn’t feel the location sheltered her from paparazzi.

“Mary-Kate was not happy with the house, it was not private enough for her,” an insider told Page Six. “She needs a garage or something with a more secure entrance.”

The couple are said to have never moved into their former East Village property.

And apparently they are rapidly searching for an alternative residence, as Mary-Kate and Olivier were recently spotted house hunting uptown. It is also claimed the pair are considering moving to a low-key neighbourhood like Turtle Bay.

News broke at the end of February that Mary-Kate and Olivier had become engaged to be wed.

And sources told Us Weekly magazine last month the couple are now “talking about trying to get pregnant”.

While this will be the first marriage for Mary-Kate, it would be the second for Olivier, who has two children, Julien, 12, and Margo, ten, from his first union.

It seems Mary-Kate has enthusiastically approached the idea of becoming a parent by treating Olivier’s kids with special care.

“Mary-Kate has made him a better father. She remembers all the kids' special events," a source previously told the magazine of the husband and wife-to-be.

"She thinks he's a great dad."
