Matt Damon is reportedly helping Ben Affleck get through his divorce.

Last month it was announced that Ben had split from his wife of ten years, Jennifer Garner, after speculation that their marriage was on the rocks. Both stars have been spotted looking tired and tense as they try to organise what's best for their kids, daughters Violet and Seraphina and son Samuel.

Although they put on a happy front at the weekend with their children, it's thought Ben is struggling behind the scenes and his close pal Matt and agent Patrick Whitesell have stepped in to help.

“They have formed a tight circle of protection around Ben and are determined to keep him from a full-on breakdown,” an insider told RadarOnline, adding that Ben feels guilty for the end of his marriage. "He’s really in bad shape and Matt and Pat are urging him to get past this as quickly as possible and stay focused on the work ahead of him.”

Ben and Matt have starred in several films together, most famously 1997’s Good Will Hunting, which they co-wrote and won an Oscar for.

Another thing thought to be distracting Ben from his heartbreak is his movie adaptation of Live by Night, based on the same-titled novel by Dennis Lehane. He has taken on writing, directing and acting duties in the flick, which is scheduled to hit cinemas at the end of next year and will also feature Zoe Saldana and Sienna Miller.

“He’s naturally a workaholic anyway, but he’s in a dark place now and only time and his friends can help pull him through,” the source added.

It's been claimed Ben and Jennifer are temporarily staying in a property owned by Brooke Shields with their brood until further arrangements are made.
