McCarthy and Wahlberg engaged

Jenny McCarthy is engaged to Donnie Wahlberg.

The 41-year-old model has been dating the singer-and-actor since July last year. Now, on show The View, the star has revealed that the pair are planning to tie the knot.

"I just got engaged!" she grinned on the programme.

The pretty blonde showed off her ring, which she explained is a yellow sapphire. She became emotional as she said her son Evan, 12, had helped with the surprise and that Donnie got down on one knee to pop the question.

Donnie also came on to the set of the show and gave Jenny a kiss after she shared their happy news. However, the pair admitted they have not yet set a date.

Jenny has previously been married to John Mallory Asher, who she has Evan with. They divorced in 2005, after six years of marriage.

Donnie, 44, was married to Kim Fey, but they ended their union in 2008. He has sons Xavier and Elijah with his ex-wife.

Jenny's son Evan was diagnosed with autism in 2005. Since then she has often spoken about the link she believes there is between the disorder and vaccinations given to children.

However, in a recent column for the Chicago Sun-Times, she denied that she is against vaccinating kids.

"This is not a change in my stance nor is it a new position I have recently adopted," she wrote, adding, "I've never told anyone to not vaccinate.

"My beautiful son, Evan, inspired this mother to question the 'one size fits all' philosophy of the recommended vaccine schedule... I embarked on this quest not only for myself and my family, but for countless parents who shared my desire for knowledge that could lead to options and alternate schedules, but never to eliminate the vaccines."
