Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camila “tamed” him.

The 44-year-old actor has two children, six-year-old Levi and four-year-old Vida with his stunning spouse. But before he settled down and became a family man, Matthew admits he was more of a party boy.

“Before I met Camila, I was a bit of a wild boy,” Matthew told America’s OK! Magazine. “She tamed me instantly.”

Matthew recently won an Oscar for his role as AIDS sufferer Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club. But before taking on the part in the emotional movie, Matthew had become more famous for his parts in romantic comedies such as Fool’s Gold and Failure to Launch.

However, Matthew admits that the approach of a big birthday made him re-evaluate his film choices.

“After Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, I knew I didn’t want to make any more romantic comedies,” he said. “I was about to turn 40 and didn’t want to waste my time making a movie that I didn’t feel passionate about.

“It was a little nerve-wracking to turn down roles that paid a lot of money, but pretty soon word got out not to bother sending me those kinds of scripts.”

But before he even made his move into Hollywood, Matthew had an entirely different career trajectory in mind. However, it was one particular script that made him decide to pursue an acting career.

“I thought I was going to be a lawyer,” he said. “Then I read The Greatest Salesman in the World, and realised I wanted to make films, to tell stories.'
