Matthew McConaughey still has no idea what Interstellar is going to look like.

The Oscar-winning actor stars as Cooper in director Christopher Nolan's new film, which is due out towards the end of the year. It's about a group of explorers who travel through space and time, although the exact plot details are a closely guarded secret. So much so that even Matthew is waiting to see the finished result.

"I've very proud to have worked with [director] Christopher Nolan and I can say that it's the most ambitious film of his career. I still don't know what the film is going to look like and I'm going to wait like everyone else to see it," he told British magazine Hello!

Earlier this year Matthew won an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. It capped his change in career, which saw him turn his back on the romantic comedies which had made him famous. The star decided he needed to challenge himself more so went at that full throttle, fully aware that casting directors might not think he was right for meatier roles.

All of this makes his Academy Award glory all the more sweet.

"I see it as recognition for my work in a very powerful film and maybe it some way for what I've done over the course of my career - but you can't break it down that way. I always believe that good things will come to you if you are purposeful and dedicated and remain true to your principles," he explained.

"I took a step back from making bigger kinds of movies so I could have a more interesting and meaningful career no matter how long it would take or the consequences of that. Finding a film like Dallas Buyers Club would never have happened if I hadn't chosen to rethink things."
