Melissa Rivers reportedly has “no choice” but to sue the medical centre where her mother Joan died.

The legendary comedienne passed away aged 81 last month after suffering brain damage due to a lack of oxygen, following complications during a routine throat procedure that saw her put into a medically induced coma.

Earlier this month Yorkville Endoscopy LLC in New York, where the operation took place, was deemed “deficient” in surgical services and staff by the New York State Department of Health.

According to TMZ, Melissa tried to find out more about the problems and whether they led to her mom’s death, but didn’t get far.

The website claims that her lawyers told her the only way she can get to the bottom of things is by filing a lawsuit, which would make her entitled to force doctors and staff to attend depositions and answer questions about Joan’s death. This would leave her “no choice” but to sue, if she wants the truth.

Yesterday it was reported 46-year-old Melissa had inherited more than $100million of her late mother’s estate. Us Weekly claims she was left $75million cash, along with Joan’s new condo on New York’s Upper East Side, which is believed to be worth around $35million.

Melissa’s 13-year-old son Cooper was apparently also left something, but it’s not known what.

“In response to NYC's Medical examiner's report, we continue to be saddened by our tragic loss. No further comment at this time (sic),” Melissa recently tweeted.
