Melissa Rivers says her mother Joan was “rarely ever wrong”.

The 47-year-old presenter is set to start hosting E!’s Fashion Police on Monday, following the death of her mother almost a year ago.

But Melissa said she is throwing herself into her career in order to take her mind off the fact she is taking over the role formerly occupied by her late mother.

“The only way I can get through this is just by moving forward,” Melissa told USA Today. “I’m focusing on work. My mom would not want me to wallow.”

The comedienne passed away on September 4 following complications in a throat procedure.

Melissa is also doing her best to remember her mother’s lasting advice regarding her personal life.

The mother-of-one has been single since splitting from sports coach Jason Zimmerman in 2012.

But now Melissa is hoping to please her mother’s spirit by finding love again.

Adding that Joan told her she should wear lipstick and go on dates, Melissa said: “She was rarely ever wrong. She told me I’d never meet anyone sitting at home.”

Following Joan’s death in September 2014, Kathy Griffin joined Fashion Police as its main anchor.

However, the comedienne left after just a few months saying she didn’t approve of the show’s style of comedy.

Melissa then landed the role as host, and former co-presenter Kelly Osbourne said she was more than a little excited about the appointment.

"It’s the right decision,” Kelly told People magazine. “When [Melissa] called me to tell me, I was like screaming, jumping up and down because I'm like, continue the legacy!"
