Simon Baker would love a role in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

The seductive book series caused a stir with its racy storyline and is in the process of being made into a blockbuster.

Several actors, including Ryan Gosling and The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder, have been linked to the part of dominating protagonist Christian Grey.

It's a character The Mentalist star Simon wouldn't rule out playing.

"Perhaps I am a little bit too old, but I would like to play a role in Shades of Grey," the 43-year-old laughed to German newspaper Bild.

"Although I haven't read the books yet."

Simon is married to Australian actress Rebecca Rigg and together they have three children.

Although the star would have to explore his seductive side should he be cast in the film, he's more of a romantic in real life.

"It doesn't mean that you don't have to make an effort if you've got the woman already," he argued.

"I've been married for a long time. And I feel that I sometimes have to win over my wife. That is the dance of love. That's good and keeps me alive."

The couple wed in 1998 and they live with their kids in Los Angeles.

Whereas the I Give It a Year star is happily settled now, he wasn't always so lucky with the ladies.

"It is always difficult for a man to tell a woman what he feels. I've been rejected by many women. Every man has to go through this," he admitted.
