Michael Pitt found it helpful to be "open" while filming I Origins.

The 33-year-old actor stars in the upcoming drama film as molecular biologist Ian Gray, who discovers ground-breaking evidence which could change society during his studies of the human eye.

Another side to the story is his romance between two different women, Sofi (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey) and Karen (Brit Marling). Preparing for the role, Michael found it best to approach the love topic honestly.

"Well you can draw on experiences, but that can be a dead end because then you’re at the mercy of your own experiences. What I’ve learned, after working for I guess some time now, is when you’re approaching a relationship like that, like any working relationship, it’s good to be open," he explained to Collider. "To know that someone might have a different way of doing things and listen to them. And hopefully you come to a common understanding. Thank God that not only are both Astrid and Brit lovely people, they’re very talented actresses. And we had good chemistry."

Over the years Michael has starred in many features, including Seven Psychopaths. He has also graced the small screen in TV shows such as Boardwalk Empire and Hannibal. Despite having trepidation when approached with such an ambitious script, the star knows how to deal with it.

"You always have nerves. And it’s important to respect your nerves and your doubts. And then you have to ultimately overcome them," he added.

Michael also hinted at an upcoming feature he is set to star in alongside John Travolta, called Criminal Activities.

"That’s a working title, they might change it," he said. "It’s a movie about this group of friends who sort of get tied up in a business transaction with the mob and how they try to get out of it."
