Michael Shannon apparently embarrassed himself in front of Tom Cruise.

Proving that even the biggest celebrities get star struck, the Revolutionary Road actor recalled bumping into Hollywood hero Tom.

But in his excitement, he made a bit of a blunder. According to New York Post's Page Six, Michael gabbled: “I can’t wait to see the new Mission: Impossible. I’ve seen all three!”

Bemused, the action star fired back: “There have been five.”

Hopefully the incident hasn't left Michael too embarrassed to go and enjoy Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation when it hits cinemas on Friday.

While promoting the latest flick in the franchise, Tom has spoken about reprising his role of Maverick in Top Gun 2, the sequel to the popular 1986 flick.

“If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do. I’d like to fly those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI,” said the star, who is known for doing all his own stunts. “I’m saying right now, no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun.”

Fans will have a bit of a wait though, as the sequel has no release date yet, although Tom's involvement has been confirmed.
