Mike Myers relies on his family to "bring him down to earth".

The 51-year-old actor, who has starred in hit films such as the Austin Powers franchise and Wayne's World, was born to British parents Eric and Alice and has two older brothers.

Although many consider him one of the best comedy actors of his generation, Mike hasn't let the fame change him over the years.

"It's hard with my family to let any of this go to my head because they're bred to bring me down to earth," he explained to the BBC.

"My parents are from Liverpool. I grew up in a very, very normal house and I always think if Liverpool had an unofficial motto it would be, 'Who do you think you are'"

It was his father in particular who encouraged him to not be defined by his career. Although Mike's elders are English, he and his siblings was born and raised in Canada.

"My dad had a great expression: I am not my job. One of the things about North America that I don't like, although I do love Canada and the United States, is being very identified by your job. I never understood that at all," he mused.

"I go and I live life. I have lots of hobbies. I like my friends."

Mike also has wife Kelly Tisdale and their two kids helping him lead a humble lifestyle.

The filmstar hasn't been present in the industry much of late but is set to make a return with a documentary, which will mark his directorial debut. Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon follows the life of the talent agent as he looks after the careers of stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Whoopi Goldberg.

"This is a man who knows everybody in showbusiness," Mike said of Shep. "The first time I went to his house it was like being at Madame Tussauds."
