Neeson: Julie Andrews shook me up

Liam Neeson's knees were shaking when he had to sing in front of Julie Andrews.

The two stars appeared in 1986 movie Duet for One, in which Julie played a violin player called Stephanie Anderson who became ill with multiple sclerosis. It's largely based on the life of Jacqueline du Pré and provided Liam with one of the most terrifying moments of his career.

"It was Julie Andrews, lovely Alan Bates, Max von Sydow and myself. Julie Andrews was playing Jacqueline du Pré. I played her sort of lover, a third-rate singer in a working men’s club," he told British newspaper The Guardian. "There’s a scene where I’m singing The Green, Green Grass of Home, and I’ve never been more nervous in all my life. Oh, my knees were shaking. F**k me, I’m singing to Julie Andrews, you know? She can hold a tune."

Liam's latest effort is narrating documentary Manny about Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, the first and only person to compete across eight weight divisions. He is widely regarded as one of the best boxers in the world and Liam is in awe of the way he rose from such humble beginnings - Manny had a tough upbringing and didn't always have enough food.

The documentary glosses over some areas of the sportsman's life, such as his rumoured extra-marital affairs. It's not something Liam is overly concerned about.

"I think he more than hinted that he’d had a few flings. He obviously did. And his wife did, too, without saying it," he claimed. "We don’t need to know any more than that. This is a kid who grew up in the f**king jungle with nothing to eat. So, OK, it went to his head. He won all those world titles and he strayed a bit. He’s only human. I didn’t really want to see what his gambling debts may have been, you know? It’s powerful. You see him being vulnerable."
