Neil Patrick Harris' parents were worried he'd have a "ton of partners" when he came out as gay.
The How I Met Your Mother actor revealed his sexuality back in 2006. And while he is now happily married to TV presenter David Burtka, his parents were initially concerned about him.
"He [his father] comes from a military, more biblical background," he told Barbara Walters during her The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014 show. "They were worried that it meant bad things, that I was going to be in sex clubs risking my health and having a ton of partners. It didn't take long for me to prove to them that I'm not that way."
The 41-year-old, who is set to host the Academy Awards next year, began dating David in 2004 before his sexual orientation was made public. The couple welcomed their children - son Gideon Scott, and daughter Harper Grace - in 2010 via a surrogate. The men fathered a child each but they don't know which and have no plans to find out.
"I have no interest in doing that. We are their parents and I love them both implicitly," he said.
As for his own father, the Tony Award winner revealed that he had done a "180" and accepted him as a gay man. The star's family were on hand to help him celebrate his marriage to David in September this year during an intimate ceremony in Italy.
"He treats David just like he would any spouse," he said.
