Nikki Reed’s work in film gives her the power to do good.
The actress headed to Catdance Film Festival, part of the annual Sundance event, earlier this week to do her bit for the ASPCA, with the help of feline litter brand Fresh Step.
It was a light-hearted occasion, with short films about cats screened and prizes handed out for the best ones.
And the Twilight star believes her prominence in the entertainment industry is the perfect excuse to get involved with such ventures.
“I’m just here tonight. First of all, I love Sundance so it’s like a no-brainer, but also combining entertainment with a strong powerful message is the best way to get people to absorb it,” she explained to examiner.com.
“We’ve all found that throughout the years with film in moments of comedy. So what we’re doing tonight, we’re really here to shine a light on a very important message, which is adoption and understanding what that means, and the power of that, and we do it through film. We do it through entertainment.”
Nikki has three films coming up; family movie The Sunday Horse, drama Scout and violent flick The Highway Is for Gamblers.
In The Highway Is for Gamblers, Nikki is joined by former Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright and Joe Jonas. It’s an indie film about a girl whose best friend goes missing at a rodeo and she proceeds to hit the road to look for her, encountering danger along the way.
Moving on to so many new projects since Twilight has been exciting for the star, who previously admitted it wasn’t as hard to leave behind as she’d feared.
“I can only speak for myself and I would say there was a weird lack of emotion when we wrapped but looking back on it I think it’s because none of us wanted to accept that was the last day of filming, I don’t think it was because the feelings weren’t there but we didn’t want to acknowledge them. It’s really sad,” she told marieclaire.co.uk.
