Oscar Isaac embraced the claustrophobic nature of Ex Machina.

In the sci-fi thriller he plays Nathan, who has created an incredible female A.I., played by Alicia Vikander.

For the star, it was a chance to really get inside this man's head and how he feels about his craft.

"My character Nathan had been there for three years without any human contact – so clearly he’s someone that kind of relishes being locked away... So yeah – I embraced that, that kind of feeling of being enclosed," Oscar revealed to British newspaper The Telegraph.

"But there was also this interesting juxtaposition, which Alex [Garland, director] so smartly incorporated into the film.

"There was the claustrophobia – the inner workings of this lair – this bunker that he’s in – but then at the same time, there were these incredibly expansive views of the mountains and the glaciers outside."

On a quite different note, albeit still sci-fi, the 35-year-old has been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

He comes from a family obsessed with the intergalactic movies and wasted no time introducing his uncle on set. And his relative might even make it on to the silver screen.

"I don’t know if he’ll actually feature in the finished film. But he's the biggest Star Wars fan that I know, and it’s been a huge part of his life for ages – so much so, that when I got cast and told him, he nearly passed out, and was crying," he smiled.

"I told J.J. [Abrams, director], and when I brought him to set and introduced him, J.J. said, 'Do you wanna be in the movie' My uncle freaked out, and so they got him in wardrobe and put him in as an extra."
