Oscar de la Renta has reportedly died.

The legendary fashion designer passed away at the age of 82, according to ABC News.

No further details have been released about his death at press time, but it has been revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

Oscar was born in the Dominican Republic as part of a prominent family in the Caribbean country.

The designer left the nation when he turned 18 years old in order to pursue further education in Europe. While in Spain, he studied painting at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. After receiving his education at the university, he soon began drawing sketches for Spain’s leading fashion houses.

His first major apprenticeship was with Cristóbal Balenciaga and later on in his early career, Oscar served as a couture assistant for Lanvin in Paris.

Oscar has received numerous accolades for his work over the years, including the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award and an American Fashion Critic's Award.

The designer became internationally renowned in the 1960s, when he began dressing First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in his clothes.

Most recently Oscar designed the wedding dress for Amal Alamuddin Clooney, who married George Clooney in September.

He was married twice. His first union was with Françoise de Langlade, and he was with her for 16 years until she died in 1983. The star has widowed his current wife, American socialite Annette Engelhard, whom he married in 1989.

Although Oscar doesn’t have any biological children of his own, he is stepfather to children from his marriages.
