The Oscars are nearly upon us and it looks as though a number of the top awards are all but decided according to William Hill.
Having done so well over the whole awards season, Argo looks like the film to beat ahead of the Big night, with its odds of success in the Best Film category having plunged from 7/1 to 1/6, leapfrogging early favourite Lincoln, which is out to 4/1. It looks as though it is a straight shootout between those two with third favourites, Life Of Pi and Silver Linings Playbook all the way out at 40/1.
Daniel Day Lewis looks like the biggest favourite, offered at 1/50 to win the best actor Oscar streets ahead of second favourite, Hugh Jackman at 14/1.
Perhaps the closest contest at the Oscars will be fought out between the Leading Ladies. Jennifer Lawrence is 4/7 favourite for the Best Actress award although she is bound to be pushed hard by 3/1 joint second favourites, Jessica Chastain and Emannuelle Riva.
Adele looks all but certain to add an Oscar to the numerous global trinkets she has resting on her mantlepiece. She is 1/9 to scoop the Best Original Song award for her much vaunted Skyfall.
"While it may look all but certain as to who will scoop the big awards, we will undoubtedly see a big gamble in at least one of the markets as we approach the main event," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
