Robert Pattinson always worries what secret of his has been discovered when the paparazzi start swarming around him.
The 28-year-old actor hit the big time when he was cast as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie franchise, which won him fans around the world and saw his personal life gossiped about. While that has died down over years, he still sometimes gets tailed by photographers when he's out and about.
"I think it goes through periods where you’re assigned ‘this is the guy to follow’. But whenever I see a bunch of paparazzi hanging out, I always think, ‘Oh God, what have they found out!’” he laughed to British magazine Esquire. “Oh, THAT love child! I totally forgot!"
Part of the interest in Robert came because he started dating his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart. They were initially secretive about their relationship, although it was thrust into the fore when she cheated on him with married film director Rupert Sanders. They tried to make things work but eventually went their separate ways, with Robert still amazed that the split made the headlines.
"Sh*t happens, you know' It’s just young people… it’s normal! And honestly, who gives a sh*t'” he said.
“The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can’t predict."
Since the vampire movies wrapped Robert has diversified in terms of his work. He teamed up with David Cronenberg for Cosmopolis and his latest movie The Rover is set in post-apocalyptic Australia.
Despite his desire to push himself, the British star is determined not to let success go to his head. He enjoys showing off about his life to his friends, but will never be rude or objectionable on set.
"Well, yes, but it’s not like you get away with it," he explained, when asked if bad behaviour is glossed over on set. "This actress was doing a scene in the bath and she kept complaining about the temperature, how it was too hot or too cold. So everyone p**sed in it and put a bunch of bubble bath in afterwards so you couldn’t smell it! This stuff happens. That’s why I avoid asking for anything. I don’t want to get anyone’s p**s on me."
