(Cover) - EN Movies - Paul Feig has withdrawn from directing Bridget Jones 3 because he is not British.

The Bridesmaids director was signed on to helm the third instalment of the English comedy.

According to Deadline, after handing in a recent draft of the script, the studios and American Paul decided he wasn’t quite in touch with British humour.

The movie is now looking for a new director. Shooting is due to commence in January 2012.

The Bridget Jones films follow a 30-something English woman as she struggles with her love life. American Renée Zellweger plays the title character and Colin Firth and Hugh Grant portray her love interests, Mark and Daniel. All three cast members are eager to return for the third film.

Academy-award winner Colin in particular is excited about the new movie.

"Sometimes a third film is an improvement on a second," he told Empire magazine. "The idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun."

Unlike the first two films, the third will not be based on a book by Helen Fielding.

However, Helen did continue to write columns for British newspaper The Independent as Bridget Jones. It is speculated that these will be the basis for the new movie.

Paul was well known for his work as a director on many popular TV shows including the US version of The Office, Nurse Jackie and Arrested Development.

However, it was the hilarious summer smash Bridemaids that propelled him into Hollywood.
