Portia de Rossi wants to start a family with Ellen DeGeneres, according to reports.

The couple have gone through a rough patch in their marriage recently, with the Arrested Development actress reportedly entering rehab in May for drug and alcohol addiction. But the 41-year-old apparently believes that having a child would make their relationship stronger.

“All Portia can talk about is beginning a new chapter in their lives and starting a family,” a source told InTouch Weekly.

Chat show host Ellen isn’t as keen as her spouse but she is believed to be “going along with it because she is desperate” the friend explained.

The couple tied the knot at their Beverly Hills home in August 2008. And while Portia previously said that they would never have children, their recent problems seemed to have caused her to change her mind. The publication reports that the actress has even consulted the Center for Surrogate Parenting in Encino, California, to discuss their options.

If 56-year-old Ellen needs some convincing, Portia is doing her best, and is rumoured to have even made a tape to coax her into going ahead with her idea.

“Portia made a video montage of Ellen with kids she’s interviewed over the years . . . It really choked Ellen up,” the insider added. “Portia hugged her, whispering ‘You’d be the best mother ever.’ She thinks a child will bond her and Ellen forever.”

Despite their recent troubles, both want to make their marriage work and Ellen reportedly visited her wife everyday when she was in rehab.

“They are on their way to repairing their marriage,” a source previously told InTouch. “It won’t be easy. Portia will always be battling these demons. But they love each other.”
