Chris Pratt says he pursued his “80s alter ego” while filming Guardians of the Galaxy.

The 35-year-old actor portrays Peter Quill in the new Marvel sci-fi flick, an interstellar adventurer who was abducted from Earth as a child.

Chris really enjoyed getting creative with the part, as he was able to tap into a wealth of cherished memories for inspiration.

“What I wanted to bring to the character was just like, this feeling of what it was like to be a nine-year-old in the 80s and like, what were my pop icons because he and I were the same exact age, both born in 79,” he explained to Cover Media during the European Guardians of the Galaxy premiere Thursday, which was held at the Empire Cinema in London. “I was nine in 1998 just like him, and I know what those movies meant to me, everything from Star Wars and Back to the Future and the things in between.

“So I was able to understand what it’s like to be a child of the 80s and imagine what I would be if I were swept away into space and allowed to pursue my alter ego.”

In order to portray space hero Peter, Chris transformed his body significantly.

But the actor tells fans his dietary habits will probably result in a ballooning frame soon.

“I’m destined to put on some of the weight again, because, no one can live beer free forever,” he said, joking his wife Anna Faris might have a hand in the process. “She’s going to fatten me up, if I get fat, you blame her!”
