Robert Pattinson always tells the people making his movies that he will "f**k up their marketing campaign".

The British actor made his name on blockbuster franchise Twilight, but is now more interested in testing himself with independent roles. His latest release The Rover is directed by David Michôd and is a far cry from the vampire movies as its set in rural Australia.

When quizzed on whether smaller movies feel grateful to have a major star on board, Robert couldn't hide his surprise.

“Mmm…I don’t know. These films could all get made without me. It’s not like I even promote them that well," he told the British edition of Esquire magazine. “I tell every production company I work for, I’m probably going to f**k up your entire marketing campaign.”

Robert has drawn mixed reviews for his movie CV to date, but he isn't interested in what other people think. He does read the criticism, but it never gets under his skin as his priority is staying happy.

"From my cod-psychoanalysis of myself, I think I do it for myself,” he explained. “I like to see if I’m capable of something, and I don’t really care what people think, even though I read all the reviews. If it really mattered, it would have destroyed me years ago."

Starring as Edward Cullen in Twilight thrust Robert into the limelight almost overnight, while his romance with his co-star Kristen Stewart ensure he stayed there for years. He wasn't ready to have every area of his life made public and can vividly remember the exact moment he realised his life had changed.

"I was going to clubs in LA and you had to call the promoters ahead of time to get on the guest list. But one time I forgot to call, and I was on the list anyway. That’s when I knew. I showed up with mustard down my T-shirt and they’re like giving me the wink, ‘Yeah, man, you’re on the list,'" he laughed.
