On the eve of the annual Jameson Empire Awards, Empire is delighted to announce that acclaimed BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated actor-director Ralph Fiennes will receive the prestigious “Legend” Award sponsored by Jameson Irish Whiskey at the star-studded awards ceremony in London this Sunday, March 29.

Since gaining international acclaim and the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in 1994 for his portrayal of concentration camp commandant Amon Goeth in Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, Fiennes has starred in over 30 films, receiving multiple Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and BAFTA nominations, the latter two most recently for his performance as the meticulous concierge M. Gustave in Wes Anderson’s award-winning The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Having worked with an array of distinguished filmmakers including Anthony Minghella (The English Patient), Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener) and Stephen Daldry (The Reader), Fiennes made his directorial debut in 2011 with Coriolanus. Fiennes starred in the title role alongside Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and Jessica Chastain and returned to directing in 2013 with The Invisible Woman, in which he also starred, this time as Charles Dickens, alongside Felicity Jones and Kristin Scott Thomas.

A prolific stage actor and Tony award®-winner, Fiennes is currently performing at the National Theatre in Man and Superman until May. His upcoming film projects include the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! and the much-anticipated new Bond installment Spectre in which he will reprise his role as M.

Fiennes joins the roster of previous “Legends” from the world of film who include: Tim Burton; Helen Mirren; and last year’s Legend of our Lifetime, Tom Cruise.

Fiennes will receive the award at the Jameson Empire Awards this Sunday March 29, hosted by James Nesbitt and attended by distinguished guests from the world of film. Empire readers and film fans from around the globe have voted in their tens of thousands for their favourite films and filmmakers of 2014 with this year’s nominations representing a diverse slate of films encompassing blockbusters and independent cinema, with a special nod towards British films and filmmaking talent.
