Nicole Richie says raising children is a "global struggle" among working women.

The 32-year-old former reality star shares daughter Harlow, six, and four-year-old son Sparrow with husband Joel Madden.

And though she has support from the rocker and her famous dad, Lionel Richie, Nicole admits raising a family isn't easy for even a privileged socialite.

"I think that's a global struggle and we, all women, are constantly trying to find a solution," she told Marie Claire Mexico in an interview exclusively obtained by E! News.

"I'm like any other working mother trying to make things work and dealing with this situation one day at a time. I have an amazing family and they've all been very supportive, my parents live only ten minutes away and my husband and his twin brother help me when I need it."

Nicole has several business ventures keeping her busy. She debuted a jewellery line named after her daughter, House of Harlow 1960, in 2008, and in 2010 it was extended to include apparel and shoes.

She later expanded her business with a women's line called Winter Kate - her daughter's two middle names.

Because downtime is so rare, she says prioritising how she spends it is more important than ever.

"Motherhood makes you way more conscious of how you distribute your spare time," she explained. "Kids are so precious that your priorities change completely."

The February 2014 issue of Marie Claire Mexico will hit shelves on Monday.
