Rosamund Pike: I’m accomplished at losing

Rosamund Pike thinks she is “accomplished at losing”.

The British actress has had a busy awards season thanks to her role as Amy Elliott-Dunne in hit movie Gone Girl. She was nominated for gongs at the Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globes and BAFTAs but walked away empty handed. However on Sunday she finally came out on top, receiving the best actress accolade at the Jameson Empire Film Awards. But in a cruel twist of fate, the 36-year-old was unable to attend the ceremony in London, an irony that was not lost on her.

“I cannot believe that the one time I can't attend an award ceremony is the one time I win,” she said via video link at the ceremony. "I've become so accomplished at losing I have no idea what to say now I've won."

Other winners on the night included Andy Serkis for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan for Guardians of the Galaxy and Ralph Fiennes, who received the Empire Legend award.

However Rosamund could have secretly been pleased that she was unable to attend the event, as she previously admitted that she finds red carpets an unpleasant experience a lot of the time.

“It’s like that time in Africa when you see a whole crowd of zebras crossing crocodile-infested waters,” she told USA Today. “Most of them make it. A few of them are ripped to bloody pulp.”

After the success of Gone Girl, Rosamund’s star is definitely on the rise, and she is reportedly in talks to star alongside Christian Bale in The Deep Blue Good-by.
