Rose Byrne is amused by the “very ‘80s” costumes in X-Men: Apocalypse.
The 35-year-old actress portrays fictional geneticist Moira MacTaggert in the forthcoming Marvel Entertainment sequel.
Rose is currently filming Apocalypse, which is set during the 1980s, and she finds the wardrobe remarkably entertaining.
“I like the ’80s!” she told MTV News of what her character Moira dons throughout the movie. “There’s a high pant — I’ve got a great high pant thing happening, [and] I like a strong shoulder. I’m not a fan of the weird négligée under the blouse look — that very ’80s look.”
2011 release X-Men: First Class was set in the 1960s and the subsequent instalment Days of Future Past saw castmembers where bellbottoms and other iconic fashion staples from the 1970s.
Rose believes pretty much all of her Apocalypse co-stars are having great fun wearing their super Eighties-influenced costumes on set.
“James McAvoy’s got an incredible suit — looks like he’s in Spandau Ballet,” she laughed. “He’s like, ’that’s pretty major.’
“Fashion now — ’80s is still in. You see some of the things people are wearing in the ’80s and I’m like, ’you could buy that in Marc Jacobs.’ It’s very interchangeable, now.”
Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Olivia Munn, Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, and Alexandra Shipp all star in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is due to reach theatres on May 27, 2016.
Although Rose disclosed costume design details, the plotline for Apocalypse remains a mystery.
However, writer-and-producer Simon Kinberg previously revealed a few key details about the production.
“This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters,” he explained to Entertainment Weekly. “They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.”
