Rosie O’Donnell has filed for divorce from Michelle Rounds, according to a new report.

The 52-year-old comedienne announced earlier this month she and her wife had called it quits.

It was rumoured the pair weren’t yet ready to officially end their union with a divorce, but it’s claimed Rosie filed court documents on Friday to initiate proceedings at the Manhattan State Supreme Court.

According to legal paperwork obtained by People magazine, Rosie has requested a divorce on grounds she and Michelle have “an irretrievably broken relationship”.

The former couple married in 2012 and are parents to daughter Dakota, whom they adopted as a baby in 2013. Rosie also has four older children.

It appears Rosie’s thoughts are focused on family at this time, as she shared posts of her kids via social media throughout the day on Friday.

On Instagram she published a cute photo of Dakota, writing in the caption: “perfection”.

A few hours later, Rosie shared an image of children playing basketball in a school gymnasium, captioning the post: “ok one game til they r champions !!! (sic)”. The photograph was taken from the stands and it appears she may have been rooting for one of her kids during the sporting event.

Rosie has previously opened up about how she and her brood are faring in the wake of her split with Michelle.

"I'm doing everything that I can to take care myself, and I think Michelle is doing the same thing,” she told Dr Oz during an interview.

"I think what we both want is for each other to be happy and live the most complete and full life we can. We're going to figure out whether or not that's together or separate. Right now we're living separately and we're figuring out how that feels and trying to deal with all the emotions that come with that. And, also having five children."
