Isabella Rossellini was “very emotional” seeing her mother Ingrid Bergman’s face all over Cannes.

The 62-year-old actress is the daughter of the Hollywood legend and her second husband Roberto Rossellini. The three-time Oscar winner died in 1982 aged 67 and this year the Cannes Film Festival played host to a documentary on the star, Ingrid Bergman – In Her Own Words.

"She is everywhere. She is the official poster of the festival and she has enormous spread all over Cannes. It's wonderful,” Isabella told People magazine. “[it was] very emotional, the size [of the poster] surprised me, and the fact that's she's everywhere, in every shop."

As well as the documentary screening, Ingrid’s most famous films including Casablanca were shown in theatres throughout the week. The documentary takes a close look at Ingrid’s colourful life, which as well as her achievements on the big screen featured a scandalous affair with Isabella’s father in 1950 while she was still married to first husband Petter Aron Lindström.

“[She] kept everything, she kept diaries and she kept letters" Isabella explained.

The Blue Velvet actress hit the red carpet with her own daughter, and Ingrid’s granddaughter, Elettra Wiedemann. And the 31-year-old is just as proud of her legendary gran as her mother.

“She's like a big angel over Cannes,” she smiled.

Isabella recently opened up even more about how her mother, who would have been 100 this year, handled the scandal of her affair with Roberto.

“Mama of course was very hurt because she could not see her daughter (Pia) from her first marriage,” she explained to The Express Tribune. “She was hurt by the scandal, she felt she paid such a high price for it but eventually it was resolved. She made peace with it.”

Ingrid was married to Roberto for seven years before they divorced, she then married third husband Lars Schmidt a year later.
