Salma Hayek: No more selfies!

Salma Hayek thinks a “no more selfies” rule is a great idea for the red carpet.

Organisers for the 2015 Cannes Film Festival asked celebrities to refrain from taking pictures on their smartphones while attending events.

And the Savages actress is supportive of enforcing a selfie ban on the red carpet.

"There's a time for everything,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

"[Cannes is] a magical, special place, and it's important to be present, and it's important that it's exclusive. No more selfies.”

Several of Salma’s contemporaries also weighed in on the subject.

Comedienne Amy Poehler is blown away by how vain pop culture has become recently.

"It is amazing how much people like their own face these days, and how much they like to show it," she noted.

Actor Colin Farrell doesn’t mind selfies too much, he thinks they’re OK.

But the star prefers taking candid shots to posing for a contrived photograph.

"It's just capturing the effort to lean into the capturing," he explained.

Earlier in May, French actress Catherine Deneuve revealed her thoughts on the selfie phenomenon while speaking at a press conference for her new gritty drama La Tête Haute (Standing Tall).

And the 71-year-old icon believes engaging with social media regularly restricts the imagination.

"It's the social networks that don't allow people to dream any more,” Catherine noted, according to UK newspaper The Telegraph. “These people, these stars... the private lives of actors and actresses are displayed around the globe. People even post up their own private photographs on these social networks. I find this a pity. You can do what you want in life, but this is not conducive to dreams.

"Being a star entails glamour and secrecy. You have to keep something of yourself; you shouldn't display everything of your private life. You see so many images, it's hard to keep any degree of mystery."
