Scarlett Johansson has revealed Captain America: Civil War contains “complex psychological twists”.

The 30-year-old stars as sexy superhero Black Widow in the upcoming third instalment of the Marvel action franchise. And during a recent press day for fellow Marvel movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, the actress divulged that she was taken aback by Captain America: Civil War’s complex plotline.

“I have read the script for Civil War. You know, the film has a very different feeling than anything of Marvel’s that I’ve read or been a part of before,” Collider reported her as saying. “These films are –I don’t think darker is the right word because there’s definitely always going to be some kind of levity, and that comes in a form of humour or hope.

“When you compare these films to like Batman, it’s a different feeling obviously, it’s a different audience experience, but as the stakes loom, like, larger and larger, I think these films are kind of maturing with the audience; so there’s even more complex psychological twists that I sort of hadn’t necessarily anticipated.”

Following the premiere of Age of Ultron next month, it will be straight back into Black Widow’s skin-tight black catsuit for the new mother as she begins filming Captain America: Civil War. And unlike its predecessor, The Winter Soldier, in which Scarlett first appeared, it will be more of an ensemble cast featuring a host of Marvel favourites.

While Scarlett admitted she “can’t say anything” about the nature of Black Widow’s relationship with Chris Evans’ Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, this time around, she did reveal her excitement at teaming up with directors Joe and Anthony Russo again, who will also lead her in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2.

“I’m excited to work with the Russos again. They have a very different approach to this universe than Joss [Whedon]. It will be interesting to see how they treat all of these new characters,” she explained.
