Scott Eastwood: Dad approved plumbing career

Scott Eastwood says his father Clint wouldn’t have cared if he chose to be a plumber.

The 28-year-old heartthrob is quickly making a name for himself as a star to watch.

But Scott revealed in an interview on The Today Show on Tuesday that actor-turned-director Clint, 84, told him he could choose any profession that made him happy.

“Dad didn't care what I did,” Scott said. “He didn't care if I was a plumber or if I was an actor. He said, ‘Whatever you do just do it well. Just be humble about [what you do], and be a good guy and tell the truth.’

“We grew up in an area where men were sort of men and I can't thank him enough for teaching me just to go out there. He didn't care what I did.”

But having a father who is such a Hollywood legend deeply influenced Scott’s career direction.

The up-and-coming actor, who stars in a forthcoming adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel The Longest Ride, credits Clint with inspiring him in a host of ways.

“It was great to see the master at work and be a part of it,” Scott shared. “I think when I was in high school, maybe I was a little too cool for it or maybe girls were more important, I don't know. But then I realised ‘This is a great life - I want to do this. So I better figure it out.’”

However, Scott added that Clint’s advice to “Be humble and work hard and be a man” and “Show up and do the job” has ensured he lives his life in a certain way.

Instead of following in the footsteps of his peers and living in Los Angeles, Scott chooses to reside in San Diego far away from the epicentre of the movie industry.

“I live a very simple life,” he said. “I live away from all the Hollywood hype and I try to keep it that way.”
