Actor Seth Rogen found the Sony hacking scandal incredibly difficult to deal with.
The Knocked Up star was one of many famous names mentioned in emails sent to the studio which were leaked last year (14). Many believed the cyber attack occurred because of Seth’s controversial comedy The Interview, which focused on two journalists recruited by the CIA to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Almost a year on since the scandal, Seth is now able to reflect on the impact it has had on his life.
“(It was) by far the most difficult professional thing I’ve ever had to deal with,” he confessed to Vanity Fair. “I was actually shocked that after all my correspondence with the studio came out publicly that there was nothing I was really that ashamed of.”
At the time Seth and his The Interview co-star James Franco spoke out about the hacking and how the movie was pulled from the studio’s slate as a consequence. Both felt that the situation and the scale of the operation was “f**ked up”.
“The fact that I'm talking about this is f**king weird. It's stolen information,” he said at the time. “I think it is f**ked up that anyone's talking about it and I'm OK talking about my s**t because I don't care that much and the stuff that was stolen from me. On the grand scale it is not that bad, but it is f**king stolen!"
Having now put the ordeal behind him Seth has been able to focus on his work. He can currently be seen in the biopic Steve Jobs as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. But the star knows stepping outside of his comfort zone as an actor has left him open to criticism.
“I just knew that if I tried to do this and it went really poorly, then it just could not have been worse... that type of thing people would just love to tear apart, you know,” he added. “I’m someone people like to tear apart anyway, I was just aware that I would have made fun of me if I could have. If I saw another actor like me doing this movie and turning out really poorly, I would have been mocking with my friend.”
