Shailene Woodley: I was lost

Shailene Woodley used to take everything personally.

The 23-year-old has appeared in huge movies, such as the Divergent franchise and The Fault in Our Stars, and was nominated for the EE Rising Star BAFTA this year.

While she's one of the hottest young stars right now, she hasn't always been so sure of her talents.

"I had real problems during that part of my life. I felt very lost," she told German magazine Bravo of her teenage years.

"I took everything personally and was my own harshest critic."

Luckily, she soon realised that most young people feel that way and that it's simply a time of finding oneself.

A big part of her teenage years was trying super hard at school.

"I was a total nerd!" she laughed. "I would have done anything for good grades."

Shailene is probably in one of the best places for giving advice to other young people. Her main tip is to ignore the haters.

"Don't worry so much about what other people are saying or thinking," she advised.

"Trust me; they have just as many doubts!"

These days, the star is comfortable in her own skin and appears topless in the UK edition of Glamour magazine. She's also more than happy to strip off for a film role, should the scene call for it.

"I'm totally comfortable with nudity. I'm not sure it empowers me as an actress or anything, but if I'm going to do a movie with sex scenes, then I'm going to be naked, because I don't know about you, but I don't have sex with bras and panties on," she told the British magazine.
