Shia: I’m finally in control

Shia LaBeouf says having some control over his actions is a “very new” thing for him.

The 28-year-old actor’s bizarre behaviour saw him hit the headlines this year, such as when he was arrested for causing a scene at a Broadway show. Since then he’s been receiving help for an addiction to alcohol and he’s also admitted his decision to method act has caused some of the problems.

“I don't, that's the thing,” he told Interview magazine, when asked how he turns off from his job. “I'm trying to find a way to have some control over my actions, my behaviour, my ideas, my thoughts, my path in life. But it's very new for me. There hasn't been much off time. And when your emotional state is based on whatever you've committed to for the next six, seven months of your life, you have to be careful about what you say yes to. There's a f**king price to some movies. Some movies you don't get back what you give.”

This is a new idea for the star, who admits not always putting a great deal of thought into his career. He feels many of his early roles could have been played by anyone, although he turned that around with his part in 2012’s Lawless. After that he made an effort to find films which affected him on “a very cathartic level”, such as his next project.

“That's where I felt I was in my life. I'm still there. What I'm going to work on next is a very cathartic thing - it's therapy - a movie called Man Down. Gary Oldman is going to play my therapist, which is the craziest part of the whole thing,” he said.
