Somerhalder, Reed plead for dog rescue

Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed are asking fans for help rescuing a pit bull.

The Vampire Diaries star, who has been romantically linked to the Twilight actress for several weeks, is also a well-known philanthropist.

And he used his Twitter account on Wednesday to help bring awareness to Nikki’s plea for a four-legged friend named Kate, who is in desperate need of a home.

“iamnikkireed's photo some one please give Kate a GREAT HOME!!!! PLEASE!” Ian pleaded, with a link to a photo on Nikki’s profile on the micro-blog..

The image posted by the actress shows an adorable spotted pooch looking up at the camera with large brown eyes.

“Hey friends. This is Kate,” Nikki wrote. “She needs a new home, and believe me I would take her if I could.”

Nikki did not share further details about the dog’s former owner. But the star assured anyone reading that the pit’s demeanour is not aggressive.

“I know this dog inside and out,” she continued, adding, “She is the sweetest most lovey cuddly ball of mushiness. She has lots and lots of energy, and needs to be the only pet. She gets jealous and is a classic pit when it comes to cats, squirrels etc. She is great with all people and kids. Super submissive.
