Sylvester Stallone is reportedly planning to reprise his role as John Rambo.

The 68-year-old action hero made his debut as the Vietnam War veteran in 1982’s First Blood.

Rumours emerged in June Sylvester was plotting a return to the franchise in Rambo V.

And he indeed plans to both star in and direct the forthcoming feature, entitled Rambo: Last Blood, according to ComingSoon.net.

The actor’s frequent collaborator, Avi Lerner, is said to be on board to produce for Millennium Films.

The report follows six years after Sylvester last took on the role in 2008’s Rambo, which he also both wrote and directed.

The action flick earned $113.2 million at box offices worldwide, according to the outlet.

Sylvester made a major comeback to the genre in 2010 with The Expendables, which saw him star as gang leader Barney Ross in the story of a team of mercenaries.

The latest instalment, The Expendables 3, drew in disappointing box office numbers despite star power from the likes of Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson, among others.

Sylvester, who created the franchise, recently opened up about the time-consuming nature of working both behind and in front of the camera, with much of his efforts going into getting the cast members he most wanted.

"To answer your question, it's very, very time consuming,” he told Cover Media at the London press conference last month.

“It takes a long time to get some people, a lot, like a year, calling them on your birthday, 'You know it's my birthday...' Originally I wanted Mel to direct, but no, he's such a great [person], he's so personal and he goes, 'I wouldn't mind playing a villain' Sold! Sold."
