Sylvester Stallone looks for “unique” traits in actors when casting his films.

The 67-year-old Rocky legend is gearing up for the release of The Expendables 3, which he co-authored with other screenwriters.

The film has an impressive cast comprised of numerous action movie legends, and Sylvester says the all-star lineup is no coincidence.

“I want to get, if possible, the most unique actors from the past and just put ‘em out there once and for all, you know'” he told IGN.

“It just seems like an interesting… quest to do that, because I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen again. And we’re certainly not getting any younger.”

In another new interview with Collider, Sylvester spoke about how excellent it feels to work with a cast that includes heavyweights like Wesley Snipes, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others.

“The hardest thing is to find an action star. I don’t give a damn what anyone says, stars they come and go,” he said.

“An action star, you can count on one hand, because it’s a very interesting element. And I think all these guys have that potential, otherwise they wouldn’t be here. And they all blend. It’s something I’m very, very proud of. All these guys do things that are highly unique and they’ve become specialised and rare.”

The Expendables 3 will reach US theatres on August 15.
