Reese Witherspoon and Kaley Cuoco led tributes to beloved late actor James Garner on Sunday.
The acting veteran, most famous for his roles in Maverick, The Rockford Files and most recently as the older version of Ryan Gosling’s character in The Notebook, passed away at his Los Angeles home on Saturday at the age of 86.
Reese, who starred alongside James in 1998 thriller Twilight, took to Instagram on Sunday to pay her respects.
"Very privileged to work with this incredibly talented actor early in my career. He will be loved and missed forever #JamesGarner,” she captioned a vintage photo of James.
Kaley, who shared the screen with James on US TV series 8 Simple Rules, posted a photo of the pair together with their castmates, telling readers the star was like a father-like figure on set.
“I say this with a heavy broken heart.was an honor working beside u receiving ur bear hugs every day. Grampa Jim,” she tweeted.
“James Garner falls under the heading of, "They don't make em like they used to" You were the f***ing coolest. R.I.P my friend,” John Stamos added.
LeAnn Rimes also chimed in, writing that James would be greatly missed.
“My heart is broken this morning R.I.P. Jim Garner He was a dear friend His humor, laughter and sweet soul will be forever missed #loveyoujim,” she tweeted.
William Shatner also paid his respects.
“Sending thoughts and prayers to the family of James Garner this morning,” he tweeted.
Police told KTLA 5 News James died of natural causes.
The Oklahoma-born star was given a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2004.
In a statement issued about his death on Sunday, a spokesperson for the union celebrated him as “the definition of the smooth, dashing leading man”.
“…But his talents were so much more than skin deep,” SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard continued. “He was a hard worker who dedicated himself wholly to whatever he set out to accomplish, whether it was serving his country or performing for the camera.”
James is survived by his wife and their two daughters.
